So last night ended up being pretty miserable because our feet were so cold. We got more socks and are trying out a hot water bottle at our feet tonight. Wesley got the Mr. heater working today and we even got it going in the tent tonight, but then it started throwing flames out of the top of it and I was like, “Huh-uh, turn it off.” Two people today mentioned putting hot rocks at the foot of our bed, but in order to do that you have to have a fire to make the rock hot. We have no fire so we’re trying the hot water bottle first.
I have been absolutely horrible about drinking water since it got colder. It is so hard to drink ice cold water when you’re cold. When we were at Walmart Saturday night, we grabbed an electric tea kettle. Now I can drink hot water which warms me up from the inside. That, is awesome!! It’s also coming in really handy for doing laundry because TSP and Oxiclean don’t dissolve in ice cold water very well. They do dissolve really well in boiling water however.
We got rid of all of our stuff that’s gone bad over the last couple weeks today. Welda wanted the towels and washcloths so I took those to her, and I took the sleeping bags and other clothes that I’ve gone bad to Margaret up at the restaurant. She knows of a guy who had a fire and is still living in the house. Apparently he needs quite a few things and this is it going to be a huge blessing to him. It’s really nice when we can pass these things on to people who can use them instead of throwing them in the trash.
Our new tent arrived today, I think in record time. Our mentor just got a new tent from Davis Tents about a week ago and was completely shocked that ours was already here. His tent is huge so maybe they had to order more fabric or something in order to make his. Either way, it works out really well for us. Unfortunately we weren’t expecting it for another couple weeks so we’re completely unprepared for it. We’ll go buy the 1 inch conduit pipe tomorrow to cut the frame, and hopefully get rock delivered this week for the tent pad. Hopefully the heater arrives soon. The week our mentor wants this tent to air out is going to be rough with 20 degree nights, but I guess without the heater, the benefits are limited. What an blessing that it arrived already!! I was expecting this closer to Christmas.
My last update on grandpa is that his oxygen levels have maintained constant while changing both the kind of delivery apparatus and reducing his oxygen level from 15 L to 7 L. I haven’t heard anything today, but that was the update yesterday.
