Sorry for the late update on things. We moved into our tent on Wednesday, and then Thursday morning it rained like one of those steady, but not hard, rains that we get in Iowa for three or four hours. Apparently it only rains like that once every 3 to 4 years down here, and being there‘s been a pretty severe drought the past two years, I’m sure that that was a huge blessing. The really nice thing about that was that we were able to hang out in the new tent which is so much bigger than the old one and there was an option to do more than lay in bed all day. We got up and made/ate breakfast and hung out inside until the rain stopped. We went outside and Wesley spun the laundry again bc we thought it was going to start raining around 10, not 7. The laundry that was still on the line from the night before was really wet again. We skipped starting any new laundry and ended up bringing damp laundry that all checked out not contaminated in to hang on the drying rack and a ratchet strap suspended between the roof connector pieces. I could see the rain coming across the field again so we just quick grabbed everything so that we wouldn’t have to spin that same laundry out the third time. The second round of the rain was more like a normal New Mexico rain where it’s a quick shower and then it’s done two minutes later. Not to mention it’s incredibly spotty. I haven’t heard exactly how much rain we got, but Wesley estimates that there was a half inch to an inch in the laundry buckets.
That was my first day cooking inside, and dishes are a lot more challenging in a 2 quart pot when you’re inside and don’t really want to spill all over your floor. We went out to Capitán and got a small tote, which has been awesome to do dishes in. It’s also nice to be able to cook inside now because we don’t have to eat dinner at three or four in the afternoon in order to have that done before we head over to take showers. Now we come home from taking showers and make dinner and then go to bed after that. Once we get our chairs in to the tent we could even sit in the tent and chat for a while before we go to bed and maybe actually put the playing cards that we got early upon coming to New Mexico to use for the first time- they’re still in the packaging.
Yesterday we went for a 6 mile walk in the morning, and I did the laundry for the prior two days and that seem to take up a ridiculous amount of the afternoon. Wesley listened to some videos on how to get started freelancing. There seems to be an awful lot of discouragement with this whole figuring out how to work thing so you can pray for us in that way.
