We went back and hiked more at Wichita Mountains yesterday and got almost to the top. We probably could’ve gotten all the way up to the top, but didn’t have a safe way to get down so we didn’t do that. Before we left for the Wichita Mountains, we switched rooms. The room that we picked felt good in the morning, but it didn’t feel good to me when we got back and after we had dinner and sat in the hot tub for the night, there was some emotional meltdown that happened so we knew that we were in mystery toxin again. I checked the weather and lo and behold we had a southwest wind which does not work in this town so we knew we had to leave in the morning being today was all SW wind.
This morning after breakfast and hot tubbing, we decided to try a new town with two known areas as backups. Plan A worked when we went to northern TX. We found a hotel room, and then headed back north to OK to hike Quartz Mountain. We’ve gotten used to the rough rocks at the Wichita Mountains, so coming to Quartz Mountain was a whole different challenge because the peak we went up was on a trail. All of the people who climbed up it have worn off all those rough edges that give you your footing so the whole climb both up and down was scarier today. I found it hard to just walk on the rocks like I did out at the Wichita Mountains because I was afraid I would lose my footing and slip.
We climbed all the way to the very top today and were rewarded with an amazing view of the lake. The descent was somewhat terrifying, but we got it done.
Whew! The wind was blowing hard, but with much prayer, we made it back down. I think having my foot slip and watching the college aged girl slip on her way down messed with my mind and killed my bravery today.
We got back to the hotel tonight and we sat in the hot tub for a long time. I chatted with a chiropractor from Southern Colorado while we were in the hot tub. She was in town with her 5, 8, and 18 year old kids for the Little Britches Rodeo. We might go over and check that out tomorrow.
