The past few days we’ve been slowly moving across the south and arrived in FL today. We spent two nights in MS and did some hiking in the forest near Jackson. I don’t know what I thought the south look like, but the roads are lined with forest and it’s beautiful. There’s lots of pine trees, but there’s deciduous trees as well. We’ve seen lumber mills and smelled the super stinky paper mills. ? Today we were driving down close to the coast in Alabama and Florida, we saw so many huge nurseries raising garden plants, flowers, shrubs, bushes, and trees.
I guess I’ve never considered that the south would be a place that produces a large amount of lumber. We saw lots of semi‘s trucking logs in, and then you see the semi with a normal trailer but be able to smell the lumber that they were hauling.
It’s really nice down here. It’s been in the high 70s or 80s this whole trip during the day. I’ve already got a tan line on my thighs from driving with the windows down. For those of you who know me very well, I’ve been sweating a lot. I inherited this gift from my dad, and honestly it’s probably a huge part of why I wasn’t as sick as a lot of people with mold illness because one of the first things that people exposed to mold lose is their ability to sweat. And that just makes them more and more toxic. Generally they can’t tolerate exercise either, which is so sad.
When we crossed the Florida border today it was hilarious because they planted palm trees on both sides of the interstate right by the welcome to Florida sign, and then they were gone we are back to pine trees. As long as tonight goes well here at the hotel, our hope is to stay here longer and go check out Orange Beach and Gulf Shores tomorrow. Then I will feel like I can officially check Alabama off my been there list. The pictures above and below are technically from AL, but taken from the truck.
