Great news! We went exploring today and found a new place to stay. It’s on BLM land so we can stay up to 14 days. It’s lots warmer around 2500 feet lower! The car said 87 today as we were driving around. I got all the laundry done so we’re ready to pack up camp, refill water, and head over in the morning. Wesley and I react so differently to toxins and getting out of them. Getting into better air puts me in a good place for the day, but coming back into this air has really crashed Wesley. He seems to get more sensitive when we get into clean air and re-exposed, whereas I tend to build up a reserve that makes things more tolerable. It’s a good combination bc we tend to not crash and burn at the same time, but between the two of us we can identify bad spots. Wesley is in the discouraged place I was last night, but we know tomorrow will be better. With it so close to areas of known MT, I’m hoping it will stay good for awhile bc the wind could blow toxins in. The cool part is we’ll be close to a DG. I might to try to find a closer source for water though bc it’s about 50 min drive instead of 25. It’s really deserty (yes, I made that up) ?, but we scoped a spot today that at least has some junipers to try to hang a clothes line from. If that doesn’t work, we have the drying rack we haven’t removed from plastic yet.
I got all the laundry finished up by 5 tonight. We had brats and broccoli for dinner, which was awesome. I think that may have been the first time our sauce pot got used for cooking instead of dishes, dissolving TSP for laundry, or bathing. It was definitely the first time we cooked anything on our cooking fork. The wind has made for evil and annoying smoke that chases you around the fire tonight. We play ring around the fire out of necessity. There’s no sitting and relaxing around the fire tonight.
I was mentally ready to read more of Ana Harris’s blog today. It was kinda fun bc at the point in the blog I was reading, they were in the same area we are in now. The Harris’s liked to go to the hot springs, but we choose not to try that yet.
This morning I was thinking about Shania Twian’s song The Best Thing As bout Being a Woman except I made a small change- the best thing about being a woman isn’t trying to figure out how to not attract bears bc you have your period. TMI, I know, but it’s been a mental stressor living in bear and cougar country, and trying to figure out how to take care of business in the middle of the night. The bonus is we haven’t seen any bears or cats. I saw more bear scat at the new location today so hopefully we continue to not see bears. We have our bear spray in case.
We’re running circles around our last fire here. We’re leaving a pile of firewood that someone will be blessed with this weekend.
Sounds like quite an adventure. I dont kniw what all of your abbreviations are for.
Be safe and get better.
Laura, yes, we need a little legend for your abbreviations. ? (I think BLM is Bureau of Land Management, yes?)
Yes, it is. That one causes a lot of confusion these days.
Glad you found a new ‘deserty’ campsite. I understand that word! Since abbreviations tend to be the topic here – I got the BLM…and the MT… … but what about DG? I could guess, but I think it best not to do so. 🙂 Thanks for the updates!
Sorry DG is Dollar General.
