We arrived in NM late last night so we just went to the hotel to sleep with plans to go get new clothes, a rental car, and a new hotel in a better part of town. Our mentor wanted us to get into Old Town bc the MT is less here. I didn’t sleep well last night and must have started to detox bc my breath gave bc Wesley a headache and the whole room seemed bad when we got up this morning. After our adventure to Walmart we showered, changed into new clothes, and left all the clothes and backpacks we came with.
The next a step was getting a rental vehicle. That took a long time, but we left about 2 hours later with a Nissan Rogue with NM plates. This was a huge answer to prayer bc state parks are restricted to people with NM licenses, residency, or plates. Hopefully this will open more opportunities for us. We grabbed dinner and then headed to our new hotel in Old Town. If feels discernible better here. Not near as much heart pain, joint pain, and thyroid swelling for me and blurry vision, tingly scalp, and joint pain for Wes.
We cleaned all of the remaining things with ammonia water this afternoon. It’s not a normal occurrence outside the Marriott so we talked to a few people while we were out there cleaning. We decided to go grab groceries being we have a kitchenette and all the great hotel amenities (including pools, hot tubs, and hot breakfast with gf options) are closed because of COVID. It’s interesting driving around here as you go through good and bad areas. At one point I said, “Ooh, that one made my thyroid swell.” Wesley said his joints started hurting before his vision blurred out in that same location, and in another spot that it was an instant headache. Ah, the learning process! I think we’ll be better once we get out of town to camp. Hopefully I can button some stuff up tomorrow so that’s an option for Sunday once or camping gear arrives.
This is going to be a shorter post today bc it’s been lots of late nights in a row and I’m looking forward to getting to bed at a decent time tonight. Thank you for all of your prayers. Keep them coming!
Lord, bless their road, travel, health, and may joy abound!
Let the adventure begin! It will be fun following your adventures. Good luck.
Wishing you the best in y’alls healing. My intention is to be out that way from IL as prepared for the unknowns to me as possible in next month or 2.
Any info on the basics of what one needs would be greatly appreciated. My hope is that I’ll be doing this from a car/element or cr-v plus tent.
Hope today’s a good day
Get on the Practical Mold Avoidance FB Group and ask about good locations to stay in. Don’t take anything’s but your phone and wallet from the mold house. Buy new and cheap. Buy totes before gear. If you’re camping, keep it really minimal. If you’re starting in hotels, read Simcha’s post on hotels. Having a hotel home base if you’re camping is smart Bc it will all fall apart at some point as everything gets contaminated and you have to start over with gear. If you can create a situation where you don’t HAVE to work the first 3 months, life will be much easier. I wish you well on your journey! Wesley interds to do a getting started post at some point with some things we wish we’d understood better early. Watch for that. Hopefully that’s sooner than you head out in 2 mo.
