The manager of the hotel we’re staying at is the most amazing person who really gets hospitality! I complimented her on her staff bc they clearly have a heart for service. At the hotel we’re at, the hot tub was down for the day to isolate a problem. Being she manages two hotels side by side, she allowed us to use the other hotel’s hot tub. The other hotel has a sauna so I was able to sauna for the first time since we left Iowa. Our room was still good today so we were able to stay another night. Yay! This hotel staff is amazing, and we hope to stay awhile!
The manager was asking us what exactly I meant when I was talking about good air because I told her we planned to stay, but I wanted to go outside to be sure the air was still good first. She has rheumatoid arthritis and was really curious in case it would help her health issues. I explained mold avoidance briefly and told her to check out paradigmchange.me for more information. She recommended going and seeing the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Preserve so we headed that way.
It was a misty dreary kind of day, but it was really cool. The prairie grass here is even red. I wonder if it’s a particular grass or if the plant uptakes something from the red soil. They had wild buffalo and long horn cattle. We saw two buffalo and a herd of long horns.
My most amusing part of today is how redneck the electrical hookups are down here.
Our biggest lesson of the day is don’t try going out to eat after hot tubbing for the day. Our success was in after realizing we weren’t ok, decontaminating, realizing the building was bad, cancelling dinner, and leaving. In the past it would’ve been tempting to “suck it up,” but we didn’t do that. We decontaminated again, got Wendy’s, and came back to the hotel for showers. It took awhile to make it through that mold hit, but I’m feeling good now.
Fellow moldies, a key to not wrecking your space is if possible, don’t take showers in your hotel room. If you do, avoid hot showers that aerosolize the toxins off you with the shower steam. A miserable warmish shower is a way better idea. Second, get all washcloths and towels used out of your space. If you’re swimming/hot tubbing, it’s OK to use towels to dry off and wring your pool clothes out in, but get them out of your space immediately. We put ours in the pool clothes basket, but it’s perfectly fine to throw a bag of them outside your hotel room, if in hotels.
