We got the tripod for our jerry can that fuels our diesel heater on Monday. We got that all set up and now we have heat! Can I even begin to tell you how glorious it is to come home from taking a shower and have it be so cold that your hair immediately freezes…
Storms aren’t so bad with this tent
Sorry for the late update on things. We moved into our tent on Wednesday, and then Thursday morning it rained like one of those steady, but not hard, rains that we get in Iowa for three or four hours. Apparently it only rains like that once every 3 to 4 years down here, and being…
We’re moved in!!
Today was a very busy day. We did a lot of laundry, a lot of cleaning, a finished cleaning the cosmoline off the heater and assembling it, and put the rain fly on our big tent so that we could get moved in today. After all of that we went to town and got fajitas…
The heater arrived!!
Today we went to Alamogordo to get supplies and to get the oil changed on the truck. It’s pretty amazing that we’ve already driven more than 6500 miles in the past 7.5 weeks. We’re really grateful for it. We have a topper coming for the truck, but I kind of wish we didn’t right now….
I’ve officially seen a jack rabbit
Today we had a lovely lazy day. When we first started this journey our mentor told us that we did not need chairs and to just sit on 5 gallon buckets. When we replenished our gear after the really bad contamination early on, we splurged and got $5 Walmart bag chairs. Usually I never have…
A wonderful Saturday
Today was a great day. There was nothing out of the ordinary, it was just good. The weather is a little bit warmer although the wind was still blowing really hard as usual for this area. We got laundry done, ate breakfast and dinner, got a PO Box, went to Family Dollar and got some…
An Adventure to Belen
We had nothing we needed to do for our day today, so we decided to do a perceiving trip today. I went to get water and Laura worked on breakfast. She fixed our normal vegetable and egg breakfast and added some ham the ranchers had given us. It was really good fixed that way. For…
Working and Thriving Through the Storm
Yesterday we had a typical New Mexico storm for this area, cold and lots of wind. Yesterday’s high was 38 with 15-25mph winds. Those conditions are not fun, and I was not looking forward to it. I knew from previous storms that the goal needs to be survive. Don’t expect to get anything done, just…
Gathering tent parts
Today was a divide and conquer kind of day. Wesley went to Alamogordo to get 1 inch metal electrical conduit to cut into our tent poles, lumber, some other parts, and best of all, an air mattress!! I stayed at camp to do laundry. We usually soak the day’s laundry overnight, and then wash it…
I’m hoping for warmer feet tonight
So last night ended up being pretty miserable because our feet were so cold. We got more socks and are trying out a hot water bottle at our feet tonight. Wesley got the Mr. heater working today and we even got it going in the tent tonight, but then it started throwing flames out of…
