Today we got up and started getting ourselves together. We decided to go to town to use the bathroom and get diesel. We saw Carlos, one of the hunters we meet the first week we were here, on our way out of the pasture. He said he was sure we’d be gone, but instead we’d built a house. ? We chatted a short while with him and headed to town. It didn’t feel very good in town, and initially once we got home it didn’t either, but after decontaminating, it was better.
When we got home, Wesley and I went to the well to fill our water jugs. Jim had gates closed resulting in 3 groups of cow bellowing at each There was one young calf who didn’t appear to be in the right place so I called Jim. He said to just opens the gates so I started with trying to get that little one out of the pasture he was in. I quickly learned the little stinker had jumped through a calf sized hole in the fence as he jumped back through to his mom. Jim’s theory is if a calf gets through and the mom can’t, it’s no big deal. When we got back to camp, Wesley started working on cleaning the heater and I chatted with a few friends from home while I walked. I got back at almost perfect timing from my walk for Wesley to be done with his project and we headed out for another walk. We walked for 2.5 hours and were both tired by the end. As we were coming out of the hills we could see a white faced red calf. He stopped and looked at us until we got to the bottom of the hill and then trotted towards us. That was an odd experience bc usually they run away. We kept walking and he followed us quite a bit of the way back to the gate we enter the pasture from. Guess who was just inside the cattle grate tonight? This bald face with a red spot and a bunch of other cows and calves. He must’ve just kept going and bellowing until others joined him.
We had a snack and then headed into town to shower. Jim, Welda, and the grandkids were there eating dinner. Jake was there too and we were very excited to see each other bc we haven’t seen him since the 26th. I chatted with one of the kids and snuggled Jake while Wesley was showering. When he got out I told her it was nice to see her and that if she was gone when I got out, I’d see her again soon. By the time I finished, everyone was gone except me and Wesley. We’ve listened to 2.5 books of the Chronicles of Narnia in the past three days. My phone ran out of battery, with which we were listening to The Horse and His Boy. so we’ll go to bed early tonight. We’re feeling better and killed less clothing today. We also seem to be reacting to less. Hopefully the trend continues!
Hi Laura, glad to see you’re doing well. Just wanted to let you know Gwen and I are thinking about you and wishing you the best for the new year! ?? Kristin
Best! Darn autocorrect gets me every time! ?
It’s awesome to hear from you ladies! We’re doing better each day. We just made a run to beat the rain/snow we could coming across the pasture. I’m out of shape, but see the value in getting in shape. ? I hope all is well with you!!
