After staying another night in Albuquerque, we decided to try out Lubbock, Texas. We need to make a return at Cabela’s and I knew that they had one. We had a particular hotel in mind that we wanted to stay at, but after being on the south side of town for a while, it became clear that I was too messed up to stay in Lubbock for the night. We decided to head back to Amarillo because I know there’s a good pocket that has some hotels in it. We tried the new looking hotel and found it to not be all that nice and definitely not new. Despite that, because it was in good air, the hotel indeed had good rooms. I think there was a bunch of not goodness happening in that hotel that night. It seems like the poor woman who came in after us with a guy leading her by held hands was so incredibly not ok- like really drunk or drugged. Despite a good room, I was afraid there was human trafficking happening, but hopefully my assumption is wrong. The front desk girl seemed oblivious although she told me that multiple creepers come in and have called. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to better handle the situation if ever encountered again, please let me know. The guy heard me say, “See, something’s not right.” I pointed it out to the front desk girl, but saw them leaving the next morning with that poor girl still not seeming ok.
We stopped at Walmart on the way to the hotel yesterday. There’s a cold snap the next week so I pondered getting a coat if they still had one, but they were out. Wesley was following me with the cart as usual and I was looking for a second stocking cap. We went to where they were in men’s and then women’s. Finally I found a small display in a main isle. I walked around it and noticed Wesley following so I was curious how many times he’d follow me around it so I kept walking. By round 3.5, I had my hands on my knees crying laughing and Wesley was laughing, I think more at me, but we laughed over that alot!
There was an ice storm last night/this morning so we’ve been at the hotel all day. We’d expect become so accustomed to this life of exploring that it was really hard for me to just hang out at the hotel all day. We don’t stay in our room so we were in the pool awhile, chatted with staff awhile, watched episode after episode of Guy’s Grocery Games, went to the pool again, after dinner, watched more Guy’s Grocery Games, walked on the treadmills, and are back in the hot tub. I really hope we can be out exploring again tomorrow! After breakfast, we did have some entertainment of watching people trying to get out of the road the hotel is on. Nobody got hurt but many people struggled.
Laura, that is scary about the suspected human trafficking! Next time, I would call law enforcement to let them know something looks and feels off. Praying for that girl now. Thank you for mentioning it.
Love these updates! When you are stuck at the hotel but trying to avoid your room, do you watch TV in the lobby area?
We typically end up going for a drive. It’s good practice for feeling different locations and learning patterns. With the storm keeping us in we have watched TV in the lobby and spent a lot of time on our phones. We picked up a cheap card game from Walmart for another pass time.
