Oh I just found out there’s an app for me to write this blog in instead of having to do it on a browser page. I am so excited about this because apparently the word press website on my phone does not like iPhones and it does weird things, which is why sometimes there are double pictures or a little white squares in our blog when I write it.
There’s a couple simple lessons about the desert. One, the desert is a tough place and it’s hard to live here therefore all the things that live here are kind of harsh too. Like cactus stickers in your toes because you’re wearing flip-flops. I must say that the grass doesn’t feel a whole lot better than the cactus stickers. The big life lesson here, you must remove all living things from the dirt before putting your tent on top of them if you don’t want those grasses to poke through the tarp in the bottom of your tent. The sad part is that when you get sharp things sticking through the bottom of your tent and you sleep on an air mattress, you end up like a taco by the morning. We got a repair kit at Walmart today and Wesley attempted to fix it, but it was supposed to be able to cure for 24 hours. It might’ve gotten 2, but I don’t even think it was that long. The second lesson about the desert is that there are things here that we simply do not have an Iowa. We had a tarantula crawl through our camp today. I got the greatest entertainment of everyone’s responses to the picture I posted on Facebook today. If you were one of those people, thank you I got many good laughs! Just in case you missed it, I’m including the tarantula picture again.
Another lesson is that not all desert dirt is the same. The last space we were in had a higher content of sand, and the water from the laundry soaked in better. That is not the case at the ranch. I ended up in the mud last night doing laundry and that was not fun. A couple cheap cement pavers from Home Depot made that a lot better. I used our new shovel to create a little trough from the spin dryer out the road. It worked a lot better.
Sadly the app is worse than the mobile website. I’m not so excited about it anymore, but with some simple copy and paste, here’s today’s post!
Oh yes the desert is a tough place to live… but good to live, learn and experience all that it can offer! We saw a tarantula a walk a few months ago… of course we didn’t have a phone for proof. And we have also unfortunately experienced the taco air mattress fail! Totally relatable ?. We hope you both are well!! ❤️
